PETALING JAYA: Health Minister Dr S Subramaniam has been chided by a PKR leader over his silence in regards to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) investigation on two Malaysian Medical Council (MMC) officials.Speaking to FMT, Malacca PKR vice chairman G Rajendran has accused Dr Subramaniam in giving special treatment to the two officers.According to him, on Sep 23, the current deputy health minister Dr Hilmi Yahya had confirmed in parliament that MACC was investigating two MMC officials for corruption and power abuse.“The two MMC officials are its secretary Dr Wan Mazlan Mohd Woojdy and council member Dr Abdul Hamid Abd Kadir.” It is learnt that Wan Mazlan is being investigated for an alleged abuse of power during his visit to three Ukrainian universities in 2011 in an exercise to approve offshore medical programmes for a local private college, Lincoln University College (LUC).During that time he also went to Austria from Feb 13 to 16, and Dublin from Feb 16 to 25, prior to arriving in Ukraine for his official work. According to a source, the entire trip including to Austria and Dublin was financed by LUC.On the other hand, Abdul Hamid was alleged to have forced Crimea State Medical University (CSMU) to pay his one-way business class flight ticket to London, ahead of the accreditation visit to Ukraine from Oct 17 to 21 in 2012.“Since Dr Hilmi confirmed the two were being investigated by MACC, the question now is; why the health ministry has not suspended them pending the investigation outcome?” He cited the ‘khalwat’ case involving the former MMC president Dr Hasan Abdul Rahman; where upon the health ministry suspended him pending investigation, as an immediate measure.Thereafter, Dr Hasan was demoted when the investigation was completed.“Why are these 2 officials receiving special treatment as compared to Dr Hasan?” he asked.Rajendran also added that Abdul Hamid was once again elected as MMC council member, though the investigation is going on.“This is a very serious issue and we want Dr Subramaniam to explain why there is no action taken against them,”.
