The appointed following the firing of Mrs Dorothy Ngoma an experienced nurse and long time safe motherhood champion. Dorothy Ngoma holds a degree of nursing and midwifery and a masters in reproductive health. On the other hand , Mr Chipungu holds a certificate in clinical medicine obtained years back and has been running a private clinic in lilongwe (mazabuka) Mr chipungu has poor safemotherhood background and the activists believe that Chipungu has been appointed because he comes from thyolo. Before joining OPC,Mrs Ngoma has worked as executive director for BLM and nurses organisation of malawi.
