PF Considers Settling on Lungu Candidacy After weeks of dramatic infighting among the ruling Patriotic Front (PF), the leadership may be moving toward a unitary candidate for the January 20 presidential by-election. Following a disastrous general conference in which both Edgar Lungu and Miles Sampa claimed to have secured the presidency, some figures within the party are attempting to get the warring factions to meet and negotiate a reconciliation. According to a source close to Chishimba Kabmwili, a meeting was held this early evening involving Acting President Guy Scott mediating between both the Lungu and Sampa camps. However there was no guarantee that the fights would be solved any time soon. The source indicates that the PF reconciliation is motivated by fear that the opposition parties are gaining ground while wrangles go on. In terms of the matters before the courts, Lungu has the upper hand at the moment, with the High Court declaring him the duly elected candidate, however the grounds appear shaky at best and the Sampa camp will be taking an appeal to the Supreme Court. In the end, the source says, the PF’s ability to unite behind the Lungu candidacy will have much to do with the pressure of time. zambiareports/2014/12/04/pf-considers-settling-lungu-candidacy/
