PHL CONSUL GENERAL IN LOS ANGELES HOSTS VIN D’ HONNEUR TO CELEBRATE 116TH INDEPENDENCE DAY 23 June 2014 –Philippine Consul General Leo Herrera-Lim hosted a vin d’ honneur on the occasion of the 116th Anniversary of Philippine Independence in Los Angeles on June 12. The program included an art exhibit by “Ugnayang Sining Tomasino” fine arts alumni group, a presentation of Philippine traditional dances by Likas Pilipinas Folk Arts dance troupe, and Philippine corner of indigenous crafts and weaves courtesy of Ms. Linda Nietes. The occasion was graced by government officials including Walnut Mayor Antonio Cartagena and Los Angeles City Chief of Protocol Lynette Amerian. Both officials presented proclamations on the 116th Philippine Independence to Consul General Herrera-Lim. Also in attendance were members of the Los Angeles consular corps and leaders of the Filipino-American community. In his remarks, Consul General Herrera-Lim said in the spirit of this year’s independence theme, Pagsunod sa Yapak ng mga Dakilang Pilipino Tungo sa Malawakan at Permanenteng Pagbabago, he considers the consular corps’ and community leaders’ tradition of service, both to Americans and Filipinos alike, a laudable contribution to our collective efforts in Philippine nation-building, social transformation and economic development.
