PHL EMBASSY IN PRETORIA JOINS “18-DAY CAMPAIGN TO END VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN” 18 December 2014 – The Philippine Embassy in Pretoria, South Africa joined the Philippine Commission on Women and the rest of the Philippine Government in commemorating the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women with a gathering at the Chancery of members of the Filipino community from various countries in southern Africa on November 30. Philippine Consul Joselito Chad Jacinto gave a background on the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women, explaining the root causes of “gender-based” violence and its unfortunate prevalence in Philippine society. He provided insight into the reality of violence against women and the measures being undertaken by the Philippine government to address the issue. Consul Jacinto likewise delivered the message of Pres. Benigno Aquino III for the occasion, who reminded all Filipinos of the duty to ensure that the best interests of women are served by creating better initiatives to secure their health, safety and prosperity. The Embassy also invited to the event Mr. Hans Kroll, an immigration consultant, who shared his expertise on South Africa’s immigration laws, and gave advice to the Filipina spouses of South African citizens who are affected by the new rules of the country.
