PHYSICIANS FOR HUMAN RIGHTS-ISRAEL Seeks INTERNATIONAL ADVOCACY OFFICER 50% position, to start immediately Physicians for Human Rights - Israel (PHR-Israel) is an Israeli human rights organization that advocates for the full and equal fulfilment of the right to health for all persons in Israel and the occupied Palestinian territory. Founded in 1988, PHR-Israels campaigns are informed by the principles of medical ethics, human rights, and social justice. PHR-Israel’s campaigns seek to monitor, expose, and provide an alternative to the ways in which occupation, the structure of citizenship, privatization of the health system, growing gaps in accessibility of health services, and the denial of underlying determinants of health limit the right to health and hinder access to necessary medical services. PHR-Israel International Advocacy Officer will be responsible for developing the organizations international advocacy strategy, based on the work of each of PHR-Israel departments and overseeing its implementation. The role will comprehend interaction with the EU, the United Nations System, embassies, consulates, governmental bodies, among others. This is a 50% position, to start immediately. Education/Experience Requirements A successful candidate must acknowledge the functioning of the international human rights system, must understand the human rights based approach concept, must have experience in workplaces requiring teamwork and cooperative working relationships; must also have skills in policy, promotional and advocacy work, nationally or internationally. The candidate must preferably have a bachelor’s degree in social sciences, law, public policy, communication, development studies or related areas and must have at least 03 (three) years of experience in planning, managing and implementing advocacy projects. Availability to travel nationally and internationally and to attend meetings/events after working hours, when necessary. Skills · Must have a personal commitment and sensitivity to human rights issues; · Excellent research, analytical and interpersonal skills; · Ability to get organized and to establish time-lines and priorities for achieving its goals; · Effective written, verbal communication and public-speaking skills; · Self-motivated, and able to work effectively under pressure, independently and with a team; · Leadership and capacity to solve problems; · Experience in public relations/communication/media relations is strongly encouraged · Written and oral fluency in English is a must · Knowledge of Hebrew is required Activities/Responsibilities The activities and responsibilities of the International Advocacy Officer include but are not limited to the following: · Building a transversal strategic advocacy plan, by fostering inter-departmental dialogue and information flow and brainstorming with departments officers/team members; · Identify potential international partner organizations to develop joint advocacy initiatives; · Proposing and lobbying advocacy initiatives according to the departments needs and to PHR-Israel goals; · Writing, publishing and disseminating advocacy briefings; · Preparing reports, submissions and others documents to be disseminated in Israel and abroad, including to international bodies; · Organizing advocacy events; · Overseeing the elaboration of donor-funded advocacy proposals/projects; · Developing an internal policy to perform and document PHR-Israel advocacy work, in order to allow the organization to retain its knowledge; · Documenting all the advocacy work developed, in order to keep record of it; · Organizing lists of contact persons, phone numbers, areas of expertise within the EU and the UN System; · Supervising the work of outside consultants and suppliers, where this is the case.
