PIANO On behalf of the Rosa Simon Music Fund, we are offering an upright piano free to a deserving home. The piano is vertically/straight strung, with an overdamper action, and we estimate that it dates to around the 1930s. The case is of mahogany veneer, and although requiring a good clean and polish, is in reasonable condition. There is however a large chip in the front of the lid, but this could be filled and sanded by someone fairly easily. This does not affect the performance in any way. The piano has been examined by an expert, and we are confident that it has no woodworm, and that the soundboard and pinblock are in good condition, with no cracks or warps. The piano is concert pitch and is reasonably in tune, although will require tuning once it has been moved. The keys are complete and all work, with no chips or missing coverings (usually a common problem in older pianos). The action works well, and the mechanism is intact and fully responsive. However, the internal mechanism would benefit from a thorough when it is tuned. It would be highly suitable for a beginner wishing to learn and has many years of life left in it yet. The piano is currently stored locally in someone’s garage in Hadleigh. This is less than ideal as pianos are prone to damp, so the Rosa Simon Music Fund would like to find a suitable home for it as soon as possible.
