#PK is undoubtedly the weakest film from Raju Hirani till now. Hirani specializes in making films that work both on the humor and the emotional levels very effectively. He had a great opening in Munnabhai MBBS, pulled out a minor miracle by bettering it in Lage Raho, 3 idiots though inconsistent in parts had some amazing moments. But PK neither makes you laugh much nor moves you. The characters are very underdeveloped, none of the relationships have any depth (PK-Jaggu, Jaggu-Her boyfriend, PK-Bhairon etc.) Hirani sticks to his usual tropes like imposing father character realizing his mistake and accepting his kid (Parikshit Sahni doing it for 3rd time in a row!), a drunken emotional scene, an unfit outsider coming in and reforming a broken system...while his earlier films focused on one medical college, one engg college, one realtor...here the system is a larger one like belief system of the world! The funniest thing, though unintended, is in how they present the very basic skeptical and rational questions about religion as something revolutionary, which is not (compare it to the brilliance of mixing Munna with Gandhigiri...sheer genius that was!) Equally ineffective is how the entire irrational religious beliefs is represented by a grand total of one godmen, and by making an antagonist as silly and cardboardish as that has made the protagonist equally ineffective and the message that less compelling...the films most novel things being Aamirs ears and Anushkas lips is not its biggest failure, but being utterly predictable and mostly boring is!
