PLAN B PLAN B PLAN B PLAN B Is yall deaf? In the second debate Salmond mentioned three alternative options to a currency union and I believe they are also outlined in the white paper (not sure because I havent read very much of it): 1) Using the pound outside of a currency union 2) Starting our own currency 3) Joining the Euro However only bitterness and madness would lead rUK to reject a currency union with iScotland. Otherwise not only will iScotland (as I believe wed legally entitled to do) assume a position of no liability for the UKs total debt - which would leave rUK in a very precarious position with such huge debts and suddenly very little oil revenue to back it with - but additionally the sudden lack of oil backing the rUK economy would also surely have a hughely adverse affect the value of the pound as well. A currency union would make the most sense for both nations in the immediate term after independence (longer term Id like to see us establish our own currency but thats besides this point) and as I said only madness or insanity from rUK would prevent them from seeing that as it would seem like financial disaster would loom otherwise. All Ive seen are economists and bankers claiming that it wont happen, while The Bank of England is refusing to pre-negotiate anything with Scotland. In other words theyre bluffing and/or trying to scare us out of voting yes. Load of bollocks.
