PLANNING BILL AMENDMENTS CONSTRUCTIVE DIALOGUE URGENTLY NEEDED NILGA today called for significant dialogue between OFMDFM, the DOE and Local Government on the substantial amendments put forward to the planning laws. Speaking about the recently declared Planning Bill amendments, Cllr Seán McPeake, NILGA President said: “The Northern Ireland Local Government Association (NILGA) recognises the need for robust planning legislation and policies which will provide the new 11 councils with the structures and means to develop dynamic area plans; plans which support and protect local economies and the environment. The outcome should be the development of thriving, sustainable local communities. “We urgently seek to fully and robustly engage with our OFMDFM and DOE partners and work together to debate and consider these significant new additions to the Planning Bill and how they will impact on the future of planning in Northern Ireland for many years to come. “We therefore intend to hold a special meeting of the NILGA Planning Working Group, which has already developed a strong partnership relationship between NILGA and the DOE, to which representatives from both OFMDFM and Planning Service will be invited to come to the table as joint enablers in the interests of NI PLC and the communities we collectively serve,” said Cllr McPeake.
