PLEASE BE AWARE OF RABID FOX IN EAST GREENWICH! To all residents in the town of EAST GREENWICH: You are advised to be extremely cautious about keeping yourselves, your children, and your pets inside while the police search the area. Animal Control Officer, Renee Young, said two people have had contact with the fox in separate incidents since, Thursday November 14, 2013. The animal tore the pants leg of one person, she said, and bit the second. The East Greenwich Police department is currently searching the areas by Arbor Way, Arrowhead Trail, High Hawk Road, Tillinghast Road and the Frenchtown Road area. Young said the animal is at the stage of being very aggressive and hypersensitive to sound and light. Instead of running away from a loud noise, it advances, she said. She advises residents not to feed their pets outside and to keep them inside until the danger is over. If you see the rabid fox in your area, EGPD asks you to please contact the department immediately at 401-884-2244 to inform Animal Control. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO APPROACH THIS ANIMAL. It is also a good time to check if your pets are up to date on their rabies vaccinations. Thank you.
