PLEASE… FOR THE SAKE OF ALL OUR PRECIOUS CHILDREN IN GILLINGHAM, PICK UP YOUR DOG MESS. I know that most dog owners are responsible people, who take the trouble to pick up the poo on pavements and spaces in town, but it’s a completely different story once they get onto the Public Footpaths and into the fields. Right now I am referring to Chantry Fields, opposite Waitrose, although I am well aware this is not the only area which is badly affected by piles of dog mess. Dog walkers seem to forget that it is an offence to leave dog mess in any place, fields or otherwise, but it’s what it can cause to children which is so frightening. I won’t go into detail because you have only to Google it to find out, but owning a dog means educating yourself about this health issue anyway. I am a dog walker, always have been, so I am fully aware that all dog owners know their dogs well enough to know their habits, when they are likely to relieve themselves, and where their favourite spots are for doing so. Even if you don’t, then surely there’s no reason to take your eyes off your pets until you are sure they have accomplished what you have taken them out to do. But it appears you get to the field, off comes the lead, the owner is in one world, or on the phone and the dog is left to foul anywhere and everywhere. Fields are NOT JUST FOR DOG WALKERS, many children enjoy these fields, little innocent babies who love to run and enjoy playing just like the dogs do. But to do so they risk getting covered in dog mess, just because some Dog owners are too damn lazy to bend down and pick up what belongs to them. And finally, A Point to Ponder…..Maybe someone has watched you and knows exactly who you are, given that trying to do anything these days without being seen is almost impossible.
