PLEASE HELP ME TO PASS THIS MESSAGE TO THE CONCERNED AUTHORITIES. THIS IS A REALITY ON THE GROUND HERE FOR STUDENTS IN VENEZUELA. For about three weeks ago we unanimously wrote an open letter to the president which we published in the social media that we posted in many groups and also re-posted by some people just to let the president and others concerned in power to know about our current situations in Venezuela. We are studying in different areas of disciplines where the majority are Medical students and the others been trained as Engineers in other important areas. All of us are citizens of the country Sierra Leone. I do not have to elaborate on the content of our letter in this letter but to raise some important issues. Our student union here is devoid of any connection with our internal politics. To emphasize on this point our group here as students in this particular organization is NEUTRALLY CHARGED as far as politics is concerned. Based on the open letter we wrote to the president, concerning our stipends as students living in a foreign country, Venezuela to be specific, I will like to repeat the statement that the student body here is suffering seriously because of the lack of attention for us and to explain briefly since 2O1O nothing positive had never happened to us from our country. Up to this moment all efforts to help us had yielded nothing good. For the very first time ever since 2O1O our Embassy in Washington delivered to us incomplete money for a year. This I can confess discouraged us because all the reasons they gave us were not convincing. After four years for the first time the embassy was able to make us sign for $ 455 USD out of $ 18OO USD individually. With much bitterness considering the failures over the years we unanimously decided to write an open letter to the President with all hopes that before the end of December something positive will happen but unfortunately no. For this reason we will not blame him may be he got our news late or is preparing as to how to help us soon. The reason I decided to write this article is to stress to the President and the authorities to help us using all powers honestly. Watching our situation in this country and analyzing it keenly, since 2O1O it seems that we have nobody responsible for us here and that will not just happen like a natural thing but there MUST be some ARTIFICIAL reasons responsible for that. We are asking the people concerned to solve it for us. Watching the period the problem has lasted for and still continuing we thought that you are our LAST HOPE Mr. President since you are the father of the nation. We believed in your executive powers to check and see what the obstacles are and to correct them. Really there is no need to stress that we need that money here as students in a foreign country. We also need not to exaggerate about situations here in terms of inflations because it is no secret that Venezuela is suffering one of the highest inflations in the world. This you can confirm from world news and even online at any time to prove me wrong or right. Then some points I will briefly make is that we are twenty-two in number here as students and seventeen are medical students while the others are been trained as Engineers in different areas. The fact is that we are supposed to go and serve our country after finishing here means the country has to play its own part first. I don’t want you reader to tell me DON’T ASK WHAT THE COUNTRY HAD DONE TO YOU BUT WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO YOUR COUNTRY. Here in our case it is a different thing. I am talking about RIGHTS and RESPONSIBILITIES here. Then the fact is that no one will deny that we are not Sierra Leoneans and we are entitled to the stipends that will make us to become OBLIGED to our beloved country and will be our RESPONSIBILITIES to go and serve our country HONESTLY. Then we are to go also and help to forge ahead collaborating with the existing workers in the fields of our studies. Then the other thing is that no one will deny the fact that Sierra Leone needs DOCTORS more than before or engineers in Civil Engineering in different areas. The other thing to be noted here is among all the African countries that have their students here Sierra Leonean students are the only ones facing such a miserable condition. Some countries even take their students to their countries for holiday as a group, like Mali very recently, but we are not even talking about that my people. We will not border our country with extra ordinary. My article here is only asking for our basic right which is just our stipends. Please let someone inform him for us that there is a big problem here with us and we are still patiently waiting for his helping hands which we have no doubt for. It is too much and honestly very difficult to manage it any more. My article is just a reminder of our problems here. I don’t believe we are still in those ages where someone sits conveniently and enjoy the benefit of another person as we usually say in our Krio language “MONKEY DAE WOKE BABOO DAE EAT”. If the reasons given by our embassy in Washington is anything to go with still the intervention of the president diplomatically will solve it because I believe in him and on the other hand if the problem is caused by some people in the chain of delivery his power can also check it by bringing to book those responsible and solve our problem simultaneously. This latter habit will not yield anything good for our beloved country. That shows no love for the country as a whole as we sing it in our National Anthem every time just the part “GREAT IS THE LOVE WE HAVE FOR THEE; FIRMLY UNITED EVER WE STAND…there is no unity and love in such a habit by just few because it has a big potential of wrecking a country. “Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s… “ The last thing I will like to say is that I will like direct payment of the monies in the hands of the students because that is the routine we are seeing for all other countries. I am pleading for this please and not dictating. I have the confident that all of my companions will support and like this. This article I have written as the P.R.O. of the students here is just a reminder to the concerned authorities and specifically to the President whose power we trust in for all these times of our UNEXPLAINABLE SITUATIONS. Finally I am expecting to hear and see positive and collective actions by our authorities. I will not forget to appreciate the efforts of your government and the international body in the fight against the deadly Ebola Virus in the country. With deep hearts I break for a moment in silence to pray for all the victims of this virus and special respect to all our medical professionals. May their souls rest in perfect peace, Amen!!!!! Though at some miles away we continue to stand with you all in this fight against this virus and pray that God give you the strength and wisdom to finally curtail it as soon as possible. I wish you and your government a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year Mr. President and to all Sierra Leoneans at home and abroad I salute you all and wish you a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year. Amadu Leigh.
