PLEASE READ THE UPDATE FROM VILLAGE OF BENSENVILLE AND JOIN US FOR NEXT MEETING. Good Afternoon – The following is an update on recent Village of Bensenville efforts toward O’Hare Airport impact mitigation: · The next O’Hare Impact Committee meeting is scheduled for Tuesday evening, August 12, 2014 at 6:45PM following the Village Board meeting at 6:30PM. The agenda and items can be viewed here: bensenville.novusagenda/AgendaPublic/MeetingView.aspx?MeetingID=168&MinutesMeetingID=-1&doctype=Agenda o The agenda includes a Resolution encouraging the O’Hare Noise Compatibility Commission (ONCC) to pass a Resolution supporting a Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement for O’Hare Airport. o Also included is consideration of a lobbying contract with the firm Lockridge, Grindal, Nauen, PLLP (LGN) out of Washington DC. · At the August 12 Meeting, the Village Board will vote on referendum questions to include on the November 4, 2014 election ballot. The Village can add up to three questions on the ballot and they must be approved by August 18, 2014. The proposed questions relate to: o Writing of a new noise compatibility plan, o Making the “fly-quiet” program mandatory, o Revisiting the criteria used to establish noise and air pollution standards, and o Changing the metric used to measure impacts of airport noise. · 5 Noise Monitors have been purchased and placed throughout town including Hillside Drive. We are in the process of analyzing and reporting the data. · The City of Chicago announced that they are purchasing additional noise monitors to install around the airport. The Village of Bensenville has asked to receive at least one of those monitors. · A group of Village officials traveled to Washington DC with our lobbying firm and met with the Bensenville Congressional Delegation including Senator Durbin, Senator Kirk, Representative Quigley, and Representative Duckworth. In addition, the group met with Senate and House Aviation sub-committee staffers to be sure they were aware of our issues as they work on the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Reauthorization Bill. This trip was beneficial to meet with our Federal officials to gain insights and improve our strategies on our noise and environmental mitigation efforts. · Consider signing the FAiR (Fair Allocation in Runways) Coalition Petition here: change.org/petitions/faa-immediately-halt-plans-to-change-runway-usage-in-october-2013 · Updated newspaper articles pertaining to O’Hare impacts: bensenville.il.us/index.aspx?NID=712 · Next ONCC Meeting scheduled for Friday, September 5, 2014 at 8AM at DePaul University O’Hare, 8770 W.
