PLEASE READ TILL THE END It is very obvious that the youth of today want marriage more than dating. But when they sit down and calculate the expenses involved in the Amariya (marriage), they still feel they are not yet ready. I have heard several people confess to me how much their marriage ceremonies cost them. Huge sums of money. I tell you what, people have spent over GHc50,000.00(500,000,000.00 old cedis) just for the occasion. And that is just one occasion People are now afraid to even declare their marriage intentions. It is not the bride price and the performance of the rites oo, it is the party, the receptions, the whatever, that is the problem. Now what about using the money for the rich receptions and parties to start an investment plan for the children you will be giving birth to, in the not too distant future? We have gradually made marriage very expensive and when you even perform the legal marriage rites (also known as Traditional one, hmm) and they see your wife in your house, they begin to ask questions and doubt you because they were expecting a gargantuan party/reception. Oh No! Am not against the parties being organised at all because it is a strong Sunnah of the Holy Prophet of Islam, Mohammed (SAW) but we are blowing it out of proportion. It is has also increased the rate of singles in the society and hence some unwanted things being done around. Ladies, please tell your parents to allow the men to make things simple for the men to marry you. After all, it’s not about the big event but rather it is about the blessings and the long marital life devoid of any negatives afterwards. And to you the men, let’s also make sure we cut our coats according to our cloths because sometimes it is our appearances that call for those ostentatious demands from the lady’s parents. Let me state categorically here that this also applies to my Christian brothers and sisters also. They have a similar issue. The debate starts now
