PLEASE SHARE >> SEVERE WEATHER A POSSIBILITY THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING >> Good Morning PDS friends and fans. The NOAA NWS Storm Prediction Center has placed parts of the Midwest and Mid Mississippi River Valley in a slight risk for severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. Areas affected by this slight risk include: North Central Missouri Central Missouri East Central Missouri Central and Northern Illinois Northwest and Northern Indiana Most of Lower Michigan Extreme Northwest Ohio A low pressure system will move across the Canadian border and drag a cold front across the region this afternoon and this evening. The air mass ahead of the front will be unstable with CAPE (Convective Available Potential Energy) values reaching 2000 to 3000 which is quite juicy for this time in late summer. The unstable airmass combined with some wind shear will create severe thunderstorms beginning as early as 3-4 pm. Primary hazards are large hail and damaging winds, and some intense lightning, however, there is a 2% conditional tornado risk area wide. Thunderstorms should weaken later tonight as we lose the daytime heating and the boundary layer starts to stabilize. If you have plans for this afternoon and evening, please monitor the weather conditions and be prepared to seek shelter if necessary. PLEASE SHARE THIS THREAD WITH YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY SO THAT THEY MAY ALSO BE INFORMED. I will update this as waranted. - Gene
