PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD - YOUR HELP IS NEEDED - We hate to start your day with some sad news, but we wanted to take a moment to remember Zoe and Kia, and to ask for your help. This week/end, two cats who we rescued from NYC ACC in very bad condition passed away from their illnesses. When treatment at our regular vet, and for Zoe, finally an emergency vet yielded no results, their organs were shutting down and they were unable to hold a sustainable level of oxygen in their blood without support, our vets recommended humane euthanasia. In total trying to save them, we spent $2,500-- and they tragically passed anyway. Sometimes emergencies come up, and we know that. However, those funds were allocated for purchase of vaccines this week for our Ohio location. Now they are gone, and we only have a few vaccines left for animals that we pull weekly from extremely low-income shelters in rural Ohio and Kentucky, where the shelters are unable to provide the animals with anything but a pen and two bowls of food per day. Often the animals come to us in terrible shape, and all of their vaccines and triage vetting is done upon intake by us, before going to our vet for further evaluation. These are animals who may never have received vet care in their lives and many are from situations of severe neglect in rural areas. In short, these vaccines are an absolutely necessary part of saving these extremely disadvantaged, often forgotten animals, who do not appear on any internet listings, and are rarely , if ever, adopted from the shelters which are under funded and understaffed-- the many groups like ours are truly their only hope. We are in a tight place financially until a few grants come in the fall, and we have been plagued with medical emergencies in both states. All in a days work-- but to continue to provide for the needs of our animals, in these times we need to ask for your help.
