( PLEASE TRY TO PARTICIPATE ) Press Release The State government is committed to usher in reforms in the Horticulture sector. The exploitation of apple growers by middle men involved in fruit trade will be deliberated upon in a meeting, which will be attended by all the stake holders involved in post harvest management and marketing of apples. The following two core issues will form the agenda of the meeting: 1. The issue of middle men exploiting apple growers by compelling them to overfill cardboard cartons will be discussed and an amicable solution to end this long pending demand of the apple growers will be sought. The State government intends to introduce new cardboard cartons, developed by Indian Institute of Packaging ( Ministry of Commerce Government of India ) for which a sum of Rs 1090903 was spent. 2. The issue of compulsory bank guarantee from all fruit commission agents operating in Himachal will also be discussed. The government will encash the pledged bank guarantee in case a commission agent shuts shop and flees without paying the farmers, thus ensuring financial security to the farmers of this State. A meeting will be held at the Civil Secretariat ( Armadale ) Shimla on 26th November 2014 at 11 AM which will be presided by Honable Horticulture Minister Mrs Vidya Stokes. Invitations are being extended to Fruit Growers Associations, Progressive Farmers, Fruit Commission agents, Cardboard carton manufacturers etc.
