PLO Executive Committee member, Dr. Hanan Ashrawi, met with a visiting delegation from the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Pirkko-Liisa Kyostila, Ambassador of the Representative Office of Finland, in Ramallah. During the meeting, Dr. Ashrawi briefed the visiting delegation on the latest Palestinian political developments and initiatives, including the bid to seek a United Nations Security Council resolution to end the occupation within a specific timeframe and establish the independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with Jerusalem as its capital, Israel’s unilateral violations of international law and human rights, the deteriorating conditions in Jerusalem, which include the intensification of settlement activities and the targeting of the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound and its worshipers, Israel’s efforts to institutionalize racism and discrimination at the expense of the Palestinian people, and the ongoing siege and the disastrous aftermath of Israel’s recent war of terror in Gaza. She also expressed her appreciation of the Finnish position regarding Palestine, including its vote for Palestine at the United Nations and Finland’s support of a campaign warning its citizens not to engage in economic deals in the illegal Israeli settlements. She called on the Finnish government to recognize the State of Palestine and to send a clear message to Israel that its impunity and the military occupation of Palestine must end. Both parties also discussed Palestinian-Finnish coordination and cooperation and enhanced consultations on political, economic and international issues of mutual interest.
