Free Public Lecture - Rabbi Michael Lerner Wednesday, October 23, 2013 - 7:00 p.m. – Fletcher Challenge Theatre, SFU Harbour Ctr. Rabbi Michael Lerner is an internationally renowned social theorist, writer, activist and theologian. Editor-in-chief of Tikkun magazine, a highly regarded intellectual/cultural digest in the Jewish world. Rabbi Lerner also founded the Network of Spiritual Progressives (in cooperation with Sister Joan Chittister and Professor Cornel West) and is the rabbi of Beyt Tikkun Synagogue, which meets in San Francisco and Berkeley, California. A prolific writer, the author of twelve books, his most recent is Embracing Israel-Palestine: A Strategy to Heal and Transform the Middle East (2012). He draws in this book on his background as a psychologist to propose a compelling response to the conflict in the Middle East, and will be addressing this topic at the lecture at SFU. This event is organized by Building Bridges Vancouver, and co-sponsored by The InterSpriritual Centre Society, Multifaith Action Society, The Unitarian Church of Vancouver, the J.S. Woodsworth Chair in the Humanities SFU, and the Institute for the Humanities, SFU.
