PNG A PARADISE BEING TORN APART BY GREED AND IGNORANCE OF THE INHABITANTS Singapore is a very tiny country with no natural resources compared all to PNG. But they are developed, advanced and better off than PNG. What sad about PNG is that, PNGeans think time will eventually get us there without laying the foundations for change. South Korea was torn apart during the Korean War. They used up all their resources to fund the cost of war. Look at how far they have progressed. It is one of the most advanced countries in the world in terms of digital technology. PNGeans think this all happens naturally without man desiring it. What we have mustered is letting foreigners exploit our natural resources and take over business, employment opportunities and land away from away from us. Japan was bombed by the allied forces to ashes during World War II. But after 20 years they have fully recovered and managed to host the Olympics. PNGeans want our country to be taken over by foreigners while we want to become slaves and beggars in our own country. Fiji is a very tiny country with less than one million people and not rich with natural resources as PNG. But the people are better off than PNGeans. Yet we PNGeans think it’s OK for us to look up at Fiji as a bigger Melanesian brother. The world knows PNG as one of the most corrupt nations on the planet. Yet we PNGeans think it’s OK for us to be this way. The unemployment rate in PNG is the highest in world at above eighty-five percent despite 38 years of independence and a decade of continued economic growth. Yet we PNGeans think that job creation is something that happens naturally when you give more tax breaks and cuts to foreigners to exploit our natural resources. The cost of living in PNG is very high compared to developed countries. In fact PNG is one of the most expensive and unsafe places on the planet. Yet we PNGeans think we are well adapted to the high cost of living and we are OK. What has become of this country after 38 years of independence and a decade of continued economic growth? PNG is in fact a country torn apart between greed and ignorance. We don’t think big. We live in our own small world and refuse to learn from other countries. We think only foreigners can develop and advance and do big things. We want to live like pigs and dogs in substandard conditions. We want to depend and hire foreigners for all the first of its kinds in the country. What a society or country we have developed into? We have a chronic attitude problem embedded within our upbringings that transform into an agent of ignorance and greed that lubricates corruption. We are a sick society at fault by our foolishness. We think our riches in natural resources will continue to sustain us without consequences. We are mistakenly underestimating the influences of our actions in shaping the future. We have developed or invented a unique, more complicated behavioural change with talents and creativity to muster the art for the destruction of our own future. We are on an endless mission to destroy our own country and we are already addicted to it. We seldom ask questions about the country and its future. We are even unaware that we have a problem. We pretend that all is well and fine in this part of the world where we all claim to have the land that can continue to provide us our basic needs of shelter, water and food. We even take things for granted that the way we live and see things is the way things really are or should be. We are indeed a sick society at fault. However, we can change PNG today while we still have the natural resources. Once they are gone, it will be too late to change this country. This country will be taken over by war lords and tribal war leaders. We must change the course of history of this country or else we are already on our path for doom and destruction.
