POLICE BOOKED 197 ACCUSED FOR TRAFFIC RULE VIOLATIONS Jammu November 16 th : Udhampur Police booked 197 offenders for traffic rule violations during the traffic week launched to curb the menace of traffic rule violations during last week. Reports revealed that based on the frequent complaints regarding fatal and non-fatal accidents taking many innocent lives, jamming at National Highway and traffic congestions at other bottlenecks in main markets of Udhampur town and all other major peripheral towns of district Udhampur, a traffic week was launched by Udhampur Police to curb the menace of traffic rule violation. Apart from educating the general public with regard to the traffic rules for their safety, all the territorial officers were directed to strictly deal with the traffic rule violators under law especially overloading in the passenger vehicles commuting from far flung areas of Udhampur like Pancheri, Basantghar, Latti etc., two wheelers driven without bearing hamlet, rash and negligent driving, driving in drunken condition etc. to avoid any loss of innocent lives due to fatal road accidents. Continuing this drive against traffic rule violators, 197 offenders were booked under the preventive sections of law for violating traffic rules during this week. 11 vehicles with deficient documents were also seized during this traffic week. The territorial officers were also directed to recommend cancellation of the driver licenses, route permits of the habitual offenders in this regard to teach a lesson to all others.
