POLICE JURY ADVISORY Avoid Traveling on Roads with Standing Water Calcasieu Parish Officials are advising motorists and pedestrians to avoid traveling on roads that are currently closed or portions of roads which contain standing water. Traveling on roads with standing water can be very dangerous, especially in low-lying areas, because motorists and pedestrians cannot determine the depth of the water. The National Weather Service encourages motorists and pedestrians to “Turn Around, Don’t Drown,” when they encounter bodies of water on roadways that is of unknown depth. The rain event which has impacted the area during the past 24 hours has produced flooding in numerous unincorporated areas of the Parish. Some locations-especially areas located in Ward 1 of Calcasieu Parish-may have received rainfall amounts of 10 inches or more, according to unofficial reports. Public Works crews have been working throughout the day to address hazardous situations and drainage blockages that could hinder effective drainage flow.
