A;Bett said unscrupulous businessmen are packing uncertified maize seeds in the companys branded packaging materials and distributing them to farmers. Q; HAVE YOU HANDLE THIS GROWING CRISIS? A;Yes, I Spoke at an agricultural stakeholders meeting at Immanuel Africa Gospel Church in Kericho town on Saturday, Q; WHICH BRAND OF MAIZE SEEDS ARE AFFECTED MOST? A;Bett said the most affected seeds are 614 and 6213. Q;CAN WE TRUST KSC AGENTS? A; 5 per cent of our contracted stockists and agents are not honest as they collude with some unscrupulous businessmen to sell fake maize seeds under the brand name of Kenya Seed Company to unsuspecting farmers. Q; HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE? A; Because of weak law is a contributing factor to the sale of fake maize seeds. Q; INCASE ONE IS FOUND CARRYING SUCH ILLEGAL BUSINESS TO FARMERS. WHAT WILL HAPPEN? A; those found guilty will be fined KES 1 million or imprisoned for a period not exceeding 3 years. Bett said the company and stakeholders in the industry have proposed stringent penalties for the culprits. He said they have proposed a fine of KES 10 million and imprisonment of 10 years.
