POPULAR ON TONGUES BUT NOT CORRECT. All perfect praise and adorations be to Allaah. We beseech His peace and blessings upon the noble Prophet Muhammad. Many people today are used to some statements which are statements popular amongst the tribe of such province. This is why it is necessary for us muslims to always work with the shareea in our daily affairs so as to earn a good relationship with Allaah. And one of the recommended actions for us is seeking knowledge and being close to the scholars. One of these statements we shall address today is the saying that: Olohun ma gbagbe mi. meaning: Oh Allaah! Do not forget me. Scholars of shareea said this statement is wrong as we are not permitted in the shareea to attribute/ ascribe forgetfulness to Allaah(subhaanahu wataaalaa). Allaah in His Predestination had ordained the provisions of His Slaves. This is as reported in authentic narations from the Prophet(sollallaahu alayhi wasallam) in the hadeeth of Ibn Umar reported by Muslim and collected in the mutuun of Al-Imaam Aboo Zakariyya An-nawawee. We must understand that attributing forgetfulness to Allaah is a sinful act in the shareea as such person desires to establish a sifat(attribute) to Allaah which He does not have nor exhibit. Allaah said in suuratu Shuharaa , verse 11 that: There is nothing like Him and He is the Hearer and Seer of all. Scholars of tafseer explained that: The Key principle which must be followed strictly regarding Allaahs attributes is this verse. This is because whatsoever attribute that we find from narrations would be scaled using this verse. This then naturally means that whatsoever would be termed an attribute of Allaah would belong to Him alone and no one else except Him. Ash-shaykh Uthaymeen also explained the principles of Allaahs attributes using this verse 11 in Suuratu Shuharaa as a major basis to affirm His attributes(Jalla wa alaa). Meanwhile, we must understand that whatsoever would be termed as an attribute of creatures(like humans) must be ascribed to them alone and not to their creator(azza wajal). This then makes us understand that the shareea establishes forgetfulness to creatures alone and not to the creator(Allaah). As authenticated in a narration the Prophet cautioned two companions who were raising their voice in their dua(supplication) in masjid by saying: Do not raise your voice in your dua for verily the One(Allaah) whom you are calling upon is not Deaf This therefore then makes apparent to us that it is wrong according to the shareea of Islaam for us to say: Allaah dont forget me o! OR to say: Oh Allaah!! It seems you have forgotten me in this so and so trial/tribulations. This statement is found with the every sunday as-solaatu goers as Part of this Prayer book is a dhikr they do chant as: Falaa tansa Oluwa magbaagbe mi lailai! Falaa tansa ninu Ooree re khayrun Falaa tansa Falaa tansa. Meaning: Do not forget me Oh Allaah Never! Do not forget me in your mercy and fadl! In goodness do not forget me! do not forget me! Consequently, based upon these evidences; the statements above and the ones similar to them are prohibited in the shareea. We are therefore advised strongly to abandone this statement and always seek after scholarly opinions regarding matters of Islaam so as not to fall victims to the prohibitions in the religion. And Allaah is the granter of success. Baarokallaahu feekum.
