OCT 6 King Fire Update The public is invited to a community meeting to be held in Camino tonight, Mon., Oct. 6, at 6 p.m. at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 3520 Carson Rd. Fire managers will provide current information on the status of fire suppression repair. The Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) team will brief the public on their ongoing assessment of post-fire conditions and potential post-fire issues. Current Situation: Firefighters are using heat-sensing aerial photography to ensure that no hot spots remain anywhere near the perimeter of the fire. These areas are being monitored and suppression activity is taken as needed. The extreme, steep terrain has slowed containment efforts due to limited access, but full containment of the fire is expected by Oct. 8. Smoldering heavy fuels in the fire area interior will produce smoke as long as the weather remains warm and dry. Fair weather is expected to continue. Crews have repaired 130 miles (41 percent) of hand and dozer lines and roads used for fire suppression activities. They will continue suppression repair work today and remove excess fire equipment such as hose, pumps, and tanks. Firefighters will also be removing hazardous trees; chipping brush and removing road debris to make roads safer for public travel. Closures remain in effect for public safety. The BAER team continues to assess burned watersheds to identify post-fire threats and recommend actions to be taken to stabilize the fire area.
