POPULARITY & CREDIBILITY IN ANAMBRA GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION While in school, there was a friend of mine, who was too popular that his entrance into the lecture hall causes commotion as a result of cheers from the students. His command of English was superb that nobody would want to challenge him for an oral debate. Oluwale was his name[real named hidden]. He was what one could call a crowd pulller. He knows almost all the girls in the class by their first name He was too popular that he boasted that any election he contested that he would win with a landslide. Then I advise him to first go for Class Reps election to test his popularity. He agreed and he was dully nominated for the election. On the day of election, they were Five of them contesting for the same post. They were all made to speak for 5 minutes each before the entire class. He was the second and his speech attracted the loudest of Ovations and I thought he had won.Voting was conducted through an open ballot system & surprisingly Oluwale came last with a mere 4 votes out of a class of 68 Students. That day I came to conclusion that in Politics one many be popular but yet still be unacceptable to the electorate. Its therefore natural for Ngige to be the most popular of all the contestants having contested all election in Anambra since 2003. Sincerely speaking he has contested and failed on three previous attempts and so his popularity would keep soaring. But sophisticated Anambra voters would as usual demand from him, just like in other previous election his stewardship [in the senate], his source of campaign funding, capability of attracting federal presence as well as his vision for the growth of the State etc . These are what would surely count on the day. To the electorates, its a choice between Popularity & Credibility.
