PORKS AND RECREATION. BACON FOR BREAKFAST, BACON FOR LUNCH… IT’S A BACON FESTIVAL. There’s only one thing to do when you wake up and smell the glorious smell of bacon wafting through the air. Find the source and shut that pork straight down your mouth. Sydney, prepare yourselves for Australia’s first Bacon Festival being staged on February 9 at Cuckoo Callay, Newtown, with an eight-dish menu and two bacon drinks designed to challenge your tastebuds. The festival runs for 12-weeks in partnership with Black Forest Smokehouse in Marrickville, an artisan providore that source Australian pork from local NSW pig farms that is sustainably produced. Cafe co-owner Ibrahim Moubadder is the mastermind behind the bacon festival, which while popular around the world, has not yet been done Down Under. “Nearly everyone loves their bacon and a bacon festival hasn’t been done in Australia,” he said. “It’s something fun and creative while showing off the different types of bacon.” Local bacon king Richard Deignan woke Mr Moubadder’s senses to the wide world of bacon with his special pork products, including his new favourite bourbon bacon, which tastes like chocolate.
