PORT VICTORIA, Seychelles (NNS) -- Sailors assigned to the guided-missile destroyer USS Nitze DDG 94 participated in a community relations project at Foyer de Nazereth All-Boys Orphanage during a port visit to Port Victoria, Seychelles, May 9. During the event, Sailors replaced numerous broken valves and busted water pumps in the existing toilets, and installed a new toilet. Volunteers also removed and replaced rotted window frames and added glass shutters. Thanks to this hardworking team, the boys no longer have to wait in line to use the bathroom as they now have a total of four working toilets, said Lt. Marian King, the Chaplain assigned to USS Nitze. They can also sleep comfortably knowing they wont wake up drenched in rainwater and covered with bug bites. Before Nitzes team of Sailors made repairs, the orphanage had one working toilet, which was shared among 12 boys, and the children were sleeping in a damp, mosquito-filled housing area. It was great to help fix a few things around the orphanage and see the kids faces light up with joy was priceless, said Fire Controlman 3rd Class Scott Hastings. Im glad we were able to brighten their day, and give back to the community. Sometimes showing love is the greatest charity. Read more: navy.mil/submit/display.asp?story_id=80991
