POSITION: Senior Financial Accountant DIVISION: Finance LOCATION: Sandton SALARY: R600-700K pa CA qualified with 1-2 yrs exp after articles KEY PERFORMANCE OUTPUTS To maintain financial ledger system in compliance with US GAAP & IFRS and internal control requirements, supervise the system of expense reimbursement, ensure financial controls relating to the monthly and annual accounting requirements and responsible for periodic financial reporting (internally & externally). The successful candidate will do this by focusing on the following key outputs: General ledger accounting and control • Monitor adherence to internal controls and standard operating procedures. • Maintain chart of accounts and co-ordinate changes and the accounting system’s business rules. • Maintain the applicable period exchange rates in the general ledger. • Manage month and year-end closures of the general ledger system. • Ensure journals are correctly supported and captured in general ledger. • Prepare and post all standard monthly journals (SJV’s). • Responsible for the accurate recording of inventory in the general ledger. • Ensure that accruals are recorded each period. • Review manual invoices (inter company) for accuracy and ensure they are properly recorded. • Ensure the fixed asset register is maintained and all entries recorded in the general ledger system. • Undertake regular monthly balance sheet account reconciliations. • Review of allocated general ledger accounts reconciliations. • Review & supervise reconciliations of advances (TME/Special Projects). • Review reconciliations of inter company balances. • Reconcile flash sales to the final TB reported on HFM. • Assist with reconciliation and analysis of all provisions. • Liaise with internal and external auditors in their audit assignments Reporting to New York • Ensure the timely submission of flash sales and its reconciliation to general Ledger by MPG (product classification). • Responsible for the timely submission of the trial balance on HFM. • Responsible for the completion of quarter end and year-end pack schedules as required. • Liaise with New York on all other reporting requirements and queries. Operational requirements • Undertake appropriate education and training of users around the recording of expenses. • Implement process improvements relating to the recording of entries in the general ledger. • Assist with ad-hoc projects as required. • Supervise fixed asset procedures and ensure that all the necessary documentation is maintained. • Supervise the inter company accounts payable specialist and manage inter company related issues and non-standard journal entries. • Supervise the cash book specialist. Royalty • Prepare and complete regular royalty payments and reporting schedules. • Recording of royalties calculated in the general ledger. • Manage the annual royalty audit. Statutory • Submission of VAT returns and liaising with SARS on any queries. • Preparation of the income tax calculation and annual income tax return and liaising with SARS on any queries or additional requests. • Preparation of Annual Financial Statements and liaising with external auditors. REPORTING STRUCTURE: Reporting to: Finance Manager Supervisor of two staff members MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: CA (SA) 1 to 2 yrs experience in general ledger accounting in computerised environment TECHNICAL SKILLS: Strong technical skills with respect to International Financial Reporting Standards and local legislation such as Companies act, Income Tax act, VAT act Sound IT & operating systems knowledge Good background on basic data management International financial reporting Strong financial management, reporting and technical skills BEHAVIORAL SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES: Ability to apply skills across a broad spectrum of financial disciplines and to deal with both internal queries and external parties. Good communicator (verbal/non-verbal). Effective decision maker. Team player who is highly influential with good people management skills. High levels of attention to detail with focus on quality to ensure accurate financial reporting. Accurate data management skills to ensure that all the financial information is accurate and complete.
