POST #12 - I adore the EARLY READERS titles. These chapter books are illustrated on each page and feature 3-4 sentences. Very appropriate beginning in 1st grade and short chapter books. Each set --Monster Stories (not scary, kids love them), Animal Stories and Magic Stories are distinct, illustrated by different artists and written by different authors. For this age group, the MONSTER STORIES are just fun -- some have moral lessons, others dont. GRIM, GRUNT & GRIZZLE, a story from Chile, was recognized by the NY Public Library as one of its prestigious titles for Reading & Sharing late in 2013. In the Terrible Chenoo, a Native American tale, the terrifying monster learns kindness when it is shown to him for the first time in his life. ANIMAL STORIES have funky, fun illustrations and their protagonist win the day by wit and cleverness. Last, but certainly not least are MAGIC TALES. These tales are perhaps more lyrical, have illustrations I would describe as fanciful and romantic and their protagonists win the day through Bravery. They are all Wonderful. Ages 6+ for $7.99 store.barefootbooks/catalogsearch/result/?q=earlyreaders
