POST OFFICES ( How often do you use your Local Post Office). There are significant challenges facing Post Office The outlook facing the post office is considerably more difficult than originally envisaged in its business plan. The reason is caused by two main factors. Firstly government work- rather than flourishing, it is withering on the vine and it looks like the Front Office for Government strategy has to all intents and purposes has been abandoned. The other concern equally worrying is the Rapid growth of competitor mails outlets such as Collect Plus and myHermes ; giving customers longer opening hours and in many cases cheaper parcels. As I see it, you may feel that the second concern is meeting a need of the busy consumer! But what does that mean for the Local Post office in Werrington Green, You could argue that Mums wanting to return back to some form of employment would look to doing a job around school hours as a courier, and to a degree that is a positive reaction. So I will ask again what about the impact on Local Post offices?? Subpostmasters and Royal Mail work closer than ever to offer the best, accessible service, is this key to Lifestyle Courier. I wouldnt be without a Local Post Office on the doorstep, providing a vital and viable service to its local community, but I have fears afoot for the Local Post Office, with reduced work from the Government and other sources are generating other ideas of what they think the consumer wants ?? What future is there for the Subpostmasters on their choice for the future. I believe there are 3,500 Main Post Offices but I hope the traditional post office that are not converted to operating at convenience store hours and we see the traditional over the counter service remain ( not just for safety reasons, ) but to maintain that commitment in serving the Local Community and knowing mostly all who comes through the door, instead of huge corporate mogals trying to extinguish what most of us have grown up with and a familiar icon in the Villiage. Werrington Green Post Office has been here since 1889. All that is left for me to add is this, KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF OUR LOCAL POST OFFICE. Cllr J Davidson
