POSTING UP AND PROTECTING THE DISK GIVE YOU OPTIONS! In SKWIM® you can keep defenders honest by seizing the moment! Remember the disk must stay above water so placing yourself between the defender and the disk is the best way to protect the disk. But sometimes you cannot see when a defender will try to snatch it! Reaching in or reaching over can be a foul if it impedes the progress of the offensive player. With your back to the defender and both hands alternating on the disk, the defend cannot predict your move and must stay honest and square. Look for an opening. Be prepared to shoot to your weak side! (In a game, I probably would have been called for traveling! Remember, you must release the disk every full second when in motion. I held too long here and could have been called before the shot) :( Practice your no-look forehand and backhand reverse shots often 1 on 1 until they are second nature. If a defender becomes impatient and reaches over to snatch the disk, go under! Megan is a remarkable and gifted player and very fast-flow in the water, like a mermaid! This was a very lucky shot indeed! Practice 1 on 1! Good repetition is the key to finding your open teammate or hitting big shots in the game! Just like soccer, basketball and hockey! Repetition repetition! In SKWIM, a good principle to remember is if the lane is open to the goal, take the shot if you can get it there! And when the defender has position between you and the goal and the alley is closed, then pass - pass - pass! The team that passes better and more often in SKWIM will usually be victorious over a faster team! SKWIMGuy
