POVERTY & HUNGER IN THE MILITARY?! (Please stop scrolling and read! The video of the white girl undressing the black football player with her eyes isnt going anywhere...I promise.) Its come to my attention that the FLW Commissary throws away anywhere from 3-6 perfectly edible rotisserie chickens everyday if they are not sold by EOB. I had to pick my mouth off the floor! I couldnt believe it! Poverty is a HUGE issue in our country. We are the richest nation in the world but there are children who look forward to going to school just so they can eat? So I had to wonder... does poverty and hunger effect the military in the same way? And if so... why is the government imposing mandates that require facilities such as commissaries to waste so much food?! Its been on my mind since last night so I started to dig around for more info and I came across this startling article in The Huffington Post: HuffPost looked at data provided by the Defense Commissary Agency -- which serves a wide range of military members, including retirees -- and concluded that commissary customers have redeemed $101 million worth of food stamps since June 2011. According to a recent Stars and Stripes analysis, that figure was $31 million in 2008. But youre throwing food in the GARBAGE?!!! I mean isnt there some way to feed some of these families in need instead throwing away perfectly edible food? Im pretty sure the AER and other aid programs would be more than happy to take all that food off of their hands and into the hands of those who truly need it or no??? Im completely clueless... please feel free to tell me what or who you know to help in finding a solution!!
