PPI URGES INTERPOL, WITHDRAW ARREST WARRANT AGAINST MUSLIM SCHOLAR YUSUF AL-QARADAWI News has it everywhere, Interpol’s (International Police) issuance of arrest warrant on Sheikh Dr. Yusuf Al-Qaradhawi, Head of International Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS). Early this December, Interpol charged the 88 year-old man for agreement, incitement and assistance to commit intentional murder, helping the prisoners to escape, arson, vandalism and theft, seeking to hold him accountable for offenses committed in Egypt. It is a ridiculous accusation I would say, for a Sheikh living in Qatar, having a Qatar passport, at the age of 88, with serious health conditions and can barely travel, to have anything to do with regards of the tragedies in Egypt. This humble man was born in one of the villages of the Arab Republic of Egypt, a village called Safat Turab in the al-Gharbiah State and district center of Mahalla al-Kobra. Sheikh Yusuf was born on 9/9/1926 and completed the memorization of the Quran before the age of ten. He joined the Al-Azhar Institutes and completed his Primary, Secondary, and High School years there with honors, he graduated high school ranked second in the Kingdom of Egypt. He then joined the Faculty of Theology at the Al Azhar University, graduated in the field of Fundamentals of Religion Usul Al-Deen, and was ranked first among his class of one hundred and eighty university students in the 1952-1953 school year. In 1961, he was sent on loan to the State of Qatar as the dean of its Secondary Institute of Religious Studies. He worked on establishing and developing the Institute on a more solid basis by merging together the crème of the crop of the olden teachings with the proper modern ones. In 1973, he obtained his Doctorate Degree with Summa Cum Laude distinction. The same year Shaikh Qaradawi founded and became the head of Islamic Studies Department, University of Qatar. Then year 1977, Dr. Qaradawi established and became the Dean of the Faculty of Shariah and Islamic Studies at Qatar University. Also became the Founding Director of the Prophetic Traditions and Biography Sunnah and Sirah Research Center at the University of Qatar, and remains so till today. Dr. Qaradawi was then awarded the Distinguished Scientific Contribution Prize by the head of the International Islamic University of Malaysia in 1996 and named the International Figure of Ma’al Hijrah title in 2009 by Malaysia. And today, Sheikh Dr. Yusuf Al-Qaradawi seats the Head of International Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS). He is a scholar which the whole world has approved of his knowledge, and describing his education history, you are nothing but blind to insistently label him a criminal. It is embarrassing it is, if this is the way International Police do their job. Interpol issued the warrant without any basis in investigation, clearly there has been other hands involved in forcing Interpol to take such action. What’s ironic is, Interpol issued a Red-Note on the Sheikh Yusuf, while murderer General Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, the person responsible for numbers of innocent Egyptian lives is still free, even running the country. We haven’t seen any attempt of arrest from Interpol on him, which is exactly what they should be doing On behalf of ‘Persatuan Pengajian Islam Uniten’ (Islamic Studies Organization of Uniten), I urge the Malaysian government to publicly protest Interpol’s intentions and take immediate action as a leading member of OIC. Interpol’s action is a form of provocation towards Muslim. Interpol must immediately withdraw the warrant and apologize publicly. I also call upon the Muslim ummah, to keep rational at all times, continue asking(praying) for the best from Allah, for He knows who is truthful, and who is not.
