PPS Board must begin work on solving disastrous situation By RONNIE GOODE Paducah EDITOR: Paducah Power has amassed more debt per user than the federal government. Since President Obama has taken office the federal debt has increased $24,650 per person. In approximately the same time period, PPS has saddled its users with a $28,000 debt. And what have we gotten from this investment? The highest electric rates in Kentucky with no relief in sight. Eventually the negative economic impact that our city and county will suffer because of this terrible decision will force our government administration to take action. The PPS Board must admit the obvious and start trying to find some relief from the decision to buy into Prairie State. This could be a long process so the time to act is now. There must be accountability and consequences in the PPS management ranks for this horrible decision and a unified attempt to rid ourselves of this disastrous situation. The long-term liability and consequences of owning a coal mine and power plant left unchecked could be the economic death of our community. If Paducah Power is truly Owned by the People of Paducah it is past time for the owners to stand up and demand accountability from the PPS board and require them to start the search for some relief ... before its too late.
