PRAYER WILL CHANGE YOUR NIGHT TO DAY James Montgomey wrote “Prayer is the soul’s sincere desire uttered or expressed! The motion of a hidden fire that trembles in the breast, 2, Prayer is the burden of a sigh, the falling of a tear, the upward glancing of an eye. When none but God is near, 3, Prayer is the simplest form of speech that infants lips can try, prayer the sublimest strain that reach the majesty on high, 4, Prayer is the contrite sinner’s voice, returning from his ways while angels in their songs rejoice, and cry, Behold he prays!, 5, Prayer is the Christian’s vital breath, the Christian’s native air, His watchword at the gates of death, he enter’s heaven with prayer, 6, O thou by whom we come to God, the Life, the Truth, the Way!, The path of prayer Thyself has trod: Lord! Teach us how to pray” It appears that prayer seems to be the most difficult Christian activities in our days. It seems that the devil has subtlely substituted prayer with irrelevant Christian activities, fasting with feasting, and evangelism with church membership. The church seems to have lost the sweetness of prayer. Jesus told His disciples “men ought always to pray, and not to faint;” (Luke 18:1). The early church started on the basis of prayer, the exploit they made, the achievements and bold presentation of the gospel message were all the product of prayer. They gathered at the upper room not to discuss politics but to pray, they were united in prayer hence the gospel could not be hindered. Pastor, are you like the early apostles who gave themselves “continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.”? (Acts 6:4) or are you encumbered with serving of food? Attending political gatherings, visiting political office holders for crumbs that falls from their tables? It’s time you repent. Dear reader, your long standing problem could be solved at the altar of prayer. You could secure your much needed victory if you determine to pray. There is no impossibility with Jesus. Like Jabez, God is willing to answer your prayer and change your circumstances. (1 Chronicles 4:9) Wake up! You are on the battle field, the enemy is after you. Arise! Pray! Ask for grace! Do not allow the devil win the battle of your life, do not allow yokes from demons to dominate your life, let not the oppressors feast and be entertained with your sports. Arise and pray! The situation of our land demands that we pray, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14) If you want to escape the coming judgment, you must pray “Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.” (Luke 21:36) To be effective in ministry and successfully run the race till the very end, my brother, you need prayer. To reclaim your possession from the enemy, to triumph over adversities of life, to witness and win souls unto Christ, Prayer indeed is indispensable. What can a believer do without prayer? Nothing! We come to Christ by prayer; we will continue and end in Him by prayer also. Thus, the Bible enjoins us to pray continually, at all times for “your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour” (1 Peter 5:8). I will leave you with the following questions from Mrs. M.A Kidder “Ere you left your room this morning. Did you think to pray? in the name of Christ, our Saviour, Did you sue for loving favour, as a shield today? When you met with great temptation, did you think to pray? By His dying love and merit, did you claim the Holy Spirit as your guide and stay?, When your heart was overburdened, did you think to pray? Did you plead for grace, my brother, that you might forgive another, who had crossed your way?, When sore trials came upon you did you think to pray? When your soul was bowed in sorrow, balm of Gilead did you borrow at the gates todays?” she concluded “O how praying rests the weary! Prayer will change the night to day, So, when life seems dark and dreary, Don’t forget to pray”
