PRESIDENT OBAMA STILL PUSHING FOR IMMIGRATION REFORM President - TopicsExpress

PRESIDENT OBAMA STILL PUSHING FOR IMMIGRATION REFORM President Obama went on a news show this past weekend and once again echoed his hope that Immigration Reform can pass through Congress this year. He said the bill that passed through the Senate would get through the Republican-controlled House if leadership put it up for a vote, meaning there is enough support already in the House to pass reform. The problem, he said, is that there is a conservative faction of Republicans that thinks "compromise is a dirty word" and "anything that is even remotely associated with me, they feel obliged to oppose." Immigration legislation has stalled in the House as GOP members remain wary of discussing a bill that would include a path to citizenship for the estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants currently living in this county. However, pressure from businesses, religious groups, and Latino organizations remains steady, and there is hope that House Republicans can move away from politics and focus solely on policy, a policy that will overhaul an immigration system that needs overhauling in a major way. Obama seems intent on doing what is necessary to make this happen, including stay out of the debate entirely. PLEASE WATCH FOR MORE INFORMATION SOON.
