PRESS RELEASE 66/13 For Immediate Release July 02, 2013 HEADS OF GOVERNMENT OF CARICOM TO MEET IN PORT OF SPAIN, TRINIDAD The Thirty-Fourth regular meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) will be held in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago from Wednesday, July 3, 2013 to Saturday, July 6, 2013. Prime Minister, Hon. Dr. Kenny D. Anthony is expected travel to Trinidad and Tobago on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 and return on Sunday, July 7, 2013. During the three day meeting, CARICOM leaders will, among other subjects, engage in discussions with a view to formulate a framework for stimulating economic growth and development in the region. This agenda item is a proposal by Prime Minister, Hon. Dr. Kenny D. Anthony, who has called for a “big conversation” on the future of the economies of the region earlier this year. Heads are also expected to engage in a high level meeting on persons with disabilities and special needs. Prime Minister Anthony is expected to encourage other Governments who have not yet done so, to make special provisions for individuals with disabilities and special needs, as was done by his administration in the 2013/2014 Budget. Prime Minister, Hon. Dr. Kenny D. Anthony will lead a delegation which includes, Minister for External Affairs, Trade and Civil Aviation, Hon. Alva Baptiste, Advisor in the Ministry of External Affairs, Dr. Vaughn Lewis, Saint Lucia’s Ambassador to OECS and CARICOM, Dr. June Soomer and Desk Officer to CARICOM, in the Ministry of External Affairs, Mrs. Bernadette George-Marcial.
