PRESS RELEASE Baltimore City Sheriff’s Office Sheriff of Baltimore City - John W. Anderson For Immediate Release For more information: Lt. Carla P. Lightsey Public Information Officer (410) 978-8398 June 21, 2013 On August 15, 2012, jurors at the Clarence Mitchell Courthouse who were deliberating on the fate of a man charged with Drug Distribution were exiting the courtroom when they were approached by Tayvian Arrington, a friend of the defendant. Two jurors reported that Arrington was continuously yelling “Not Guilty, my mans on trial” as they passed by him in the hallway outside the courtroom. One juror while on her way to the restroom from jury deliberation was accosted by Arrington who grabbed her hand and said “Not guilty”. The juror immediately reported the incident to Baltimore City Sheriff’s Deputies who investigated the case and filed charges, arresting Arrington and charging him with jury intimidation, assault, and obstruction of justice. Jury Intimidation has been a significant problem that resulted in lawmakers passing legislation with tougher penalties. The Baltimore City Sheriff’s Office has been at the forefront of the push to pass more aggressive legislation because they have encountered such incidents and have zero tolerance for witness or jury intimidation. The guilty charge passed down by the Circuit Court earlier this week finding Tayvian Arrington guilty of all charges is a testament to the efforts of Sheriff John W. Anderson. From the very beginning, he fought to change the laws; he has made it clear that those who enter the doors of the Clarence Mitchell Courthouse seeking justice and fairness will be protected. And they will be free from any form of harassment or intimidation.
