So what did I learn today? Well I found out that the Congress passed a great civil rights act, IN 1875! 1875! That is ten years after the Civil war. this act said that no person can exclude service to people based on religion and placed a heavy burden on those who did do it. the $500 fine was paid not to the government but the plaintiff. just to give you an idea of what that is worth, it is about $10-$12K in todays money. It was struck down by the supreme court with only ONE dissent as they said no law can force an individual to act in a certain way. Well what about the laws concerning murder and assault? Seems to me that both of those are directed towards an individuals behaviour. Cant say how disappointing this fact is. Amazing that a very progressive America may have been stymied by a court trying not to piss off slave owners 140 years ago. Oh and they were ALL from the northern states. Murica, you keep disappioning me... https://youtube/watch?v=cdEQmpVIE4A
