PRESS RELEASE Date of Release: Date of Occurrence: 11-20-2014 Nature of Event: Police and Fire Kickball Game Location of Call: Skyridge Elementary School Written by: Tucker Huey / School Resource Officer THE AUBURN POLICE DEPARTMENT RELEASES THE FOLLOWING: On 11-21-2014, members of the Auburn Police Department and Auburn Fire Department will be participating in a kickball game with students of Skyridge Elementary School. This is part of a collaborative effort with the Auburn Union School District and City of Auburn Public Safety Services. During ongoing discussions with School Officials, we learned some of the children have expressed a feeling of unease. The intent of this fun activity is to solidify in the students, many of whose last interaction with law enforcement was during a critical incident and evacuation of their school, that law enforcement officers and firefighters are friendly public servants who can be approached anytime. An important function of this Departments mission is to develop lasting relationships with community members. Auburn Public Safety is committed to providing a sense of safety to all the members of this community including school aged children. Officers are excited to intermingle with the future leaders of our community and allow them to interact with us in a more serene setting. Laura Grassman, Superintendent, has stated “With deep appreciation, the Auburn Union School District family thanks the various law enforcement agencies that ensured the safety of our students and staff on Friday, October 24th. Our law enforcement and fire department officers are the heroes of our community.”
