PRESS RELEASE December 22, 2014 For Immediate Release Contact: Mary Huls 832-618-6575 mhuls912@gmail Clear Lake Tea Party Endorses Rep. Scott Turner for TX House Speaker December 22, 2014 (Clear Lake, TX) - Conservative groups across Texas are calling for State Representatives to endorse and elect Representative Scott Turner as the Texas House Speaker of the 84th Legislature . The Texas tea party movement is joined in solidarity with the GOP grassroots in promoting change within the elected leadership of the Texas Legislature. This last election cycle, Texans voted to place new leadership at every statewide elected position. This vote for change included a new Lieutenant Governor to preside as the President of the Texas Senate. Consequently, it has become obvious to the Clear Lake Tea Party (CLTP) that this desire for change includes the office of the Texas House Speaker. Mary Huls, President of the CLTP, stated When the Harris County Republican Party (HCRP) voted to endorse Representative Scott Turner for Speaker, it was clear that the precinct chairs and Republican grassroots in the largest Republican County in Texas are looking for a change. We believe that Rep. Turner is the best choice for solid conservative leadership in the Texas House. Indeed, it has been noted by the CLTP that whenever an official endorsement has been made regarding the Speakers race, Rep. Turner has been the preferred candidate of the grassroots for Texas Speaker. The formal Republican Party endorsement of Rep. Turner, to date, by Harris, Dallas, Collin, Ellis, Titus, Smith, Cass, Harrison, Shelby, Panola, Marion, Lamar, Red River, Upshur, Denton, and Sabine counties show widespread support among the GOP grassroots for real conservative Republican leadership. The counties of Tarrant, Johnson, and Bosque have passed resolutions calling for a conservative alternative. Therefore, the CLTP is formally endorsing Representative Scott Turner for Speaker of the 84th Texas House. Furthermore, we are calling on Rep. Greg Bonnen, Rep. Wayne Thompson, and Representatives-elect Dennis Paul, Wayne Faircloth, and Gilbert Pena to consider the wishes of their constituents and cast their votes for the conservative Speaker candidate, Scott Turner. Mrs. Huls concluded Even the State Republican Executive Committee (SREC) recently passed a resolution Removing Roadblocks to Conservative Legislation. This is an indication that all levels of the hierarchy recognize there is a problem with the current House leadership. Considering the overwhelming lack of support for the current Speaker among the conservative grassroots and the considerable pro-Turner sentiments on social media and in local Republican meetings, I pray that our elected State Representatives begin the 84th legislative session by voting the will of the people and provide a conservative partner to work with our new Governor and Senate President. About the Clear Lake Tea Party: The Clear Lake Tea Party is a nonprofit corporation made up of conservative Americans who uphold the US and Texas Constitutions, educate the public, and hold our elected officials accountable. They are citizens who monitor & lobby the Texas Legislature and the U.S. Congress. They are Taxpayer Advocates who stand up for all hard-working Americans. Mary Huls, of Friendswood, is the current President of the CLTP. Further information can be found at clearlaketeaparty. # # #
