PRESS RELEASE January 2, 2015 Contact: Alisa Valdes 505-848-1320 [email protected] Teacher Katrina Guarascio to be Featured at RESOLANA HEARTFIRE Event January 21 Event at South Broadway Cultural Center Features Area Poets/Writers ALBUQUERQUE, NM - Former Rio Rancho Public Schools teacher Katrina Guarascio will be a featured speaker, along with other poets, musicians and authors at a free RESOLANA HEARTFIRE performance at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, January 21 at the South Broadway Cultural Center. Guarascio, a veteran teacher, resigned in December 2014 as an instructor of poetry and creative writing at V. Sue Cleveland High School in the Rio Rancho Public Schools System. Guarascios resignation generated opposition by students and parents in Rio Rancho, New Mexico and created headlines nationally and internationally. This event will feature Guarascio and honor her years of work as a teacher, author and publisher of Swimming With Elephants Publications. The gathering will also celebrate her students creativity and joy of learning. Many of the Albuquerque areas top poets, authors and musicians will attend and perform at the event. Featured performers will include; Albuquerque Poet Laureate Jessica Helen Lopez, Margaret Randall, Greg Candela, Mike 360, Alisa Valdes, Don McIver, Sarita Gonzalez, Bill Nevins, Eric Sirotkin, Rich Boucher, Carlos Contreras, Jim Burbank, Mimi Leland, Erin Northern, Natachee Momaday Gray, Gary Stewart Chorre, and other New Mexico authors. The event will be hosted by poet Manuel Gonzalez. Free and open to all who wish to attend, the evening also will include a concert performance by Saoirse (Freedom), New Mexicos Celtic-Eclectic band. South Broadway Cultural Center is managed by the Cultural Services Department, City of Albuquerque, Richard J. Berry, Mayor.
