PRESS RELEASE LABADIEVILLE --- Sheriff Mike Waguespack reports that on Sunday, September 7th, 2014 the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office received a call from Dante Batiste, B/M age 21 of 303 Pelican Street, Labadieville about Rontrell Johnson, B/M age 28 of 211 Cardinal Street, Labadieville having shot at him. Rontrell Johnson left the scene enroute to Lafourche Parish being followed by Dante Batiste who was on the phone with dispatchers. A deputy was able to catch up to Rontrell on Talbot Avenue in Thibodaux. He was assisted by officers from Thibodaux Police Department and Lafourche Parish. Rontrell was taken into custody and returned to the Assumption Parish Detention Center. Both the complainant and suspect were interviewed at the Detention Center. Rontrell had attempted to purchase a handgun from Dante and test fired the weapon before fleeing to Lafourche Parish. The handgun, a Lorcin 9mm, was later recovered behind a house on Violet Street. At this time the handgun has not been reported stolen. Rontrell Johnson was booked in the Assumption Parish Detention Center on September 7th, 2014 for LA RS 14:95.1 Carrying of Firearm by Convicted Felon. Dante Batiste was booked in the Assumption Parish Detention Center on September 7th, 2014 for LA RS 14:95.1 Carrying of Firearm by Convicted Felon. The bond for Rontrell Johnson has been set at $15,000 and he has not bonded out as of the time of this release. The bond for Dante Batiste has been set at $15,000 and he has not bonded out as of the time of this release.
