PRESS RELEASE SPIC MACAY Hyderabad Virasat 2013 starts on 6th August 2013 SPIC MACAY (Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth) is celebrating SPIC MACAY Virasat 2013 in the twin cities with performances of several classical art forms organised in educational institutions. This event series is dedicated to Dr. Nookala Chinna Satyanarayana, Vidwan Lalgudi Jayaraman, Vidwan M.S. Gopalakrishna, Shri Ganesh Pyne, Ustad Fariduddin Dagar, Guru Kalamandalam Ramankutty Nair and Smt. Mahasundari Devi. SPIC MACAY Hyderabad Virasat 2013 will commence on the 6th Aug. 2013, with a Hindustani classical music Intensive (workshop) at Vidyaranya High School followed by a Hindustani Guitar recital at Meridian School, Madhapur on 7th Aug. 2013 (9.00 am). The Curtain Raiser programme for the 4th annual classical overnight concert SPIC MACAY UoH Yamini 2013 will be a Qawwali performance by the Warsi Brothers at the University of Hyderabad (UoH) on 7th Aug. 2013 (8.00 pm). SPIC MACAY UoH Yamini (classical overnight concerts), a special and unique annual feature of SPIC MACAY Hyderabad Virasat, is organized on the eve of Independence Day at the University of Hyderabad. The programme will start at 8.30 pm on 14th Aug. and will continue until the break of dawn on 15th Aug 2013. Like the previous years, SPIC MACAY Yamini 2013 is promises to be an enthralling night, with performances by esteemed artists belonging to the glorious tradition of Indian classical music and dance. Performing artists for Yamini 2013 are Shri P. V. Chandra Shekharan Assan and group (Kathakali), Malladi Brothers (Carnatic Vocal), Dr. Ashwini Bhide Deshpande (Hindustani Vocal), Dr. Kamala Shankar (Hindustani Guitar) and Shri Manda Ananthakrishna (Carnatic Flute). Dr. Kamala Shankar will also perform on Hindustani Guitar at P. Obul Reddy School, Silver Oaks School, Hillside Academy, Vista School and NMIMS Hyderabad Campus. Kathakali performances by Shri P. V. Chandra Shekharan Assan & Group will be conducted at Silver Oaks School, Kennedy Global High School, DAV Public School, Vidyaranya School, Global Edge School and P. Obul Reddy School. In addition, craft Intensives from 6th Aug. through 13th Oct. 2013 on Gond Tribal Painting, Chittara Wall Painting and Mooj Grass Craft have also been planned at different educational institutions. All these events will be organized under the banner of Hyderabad Virasat 2013. SPIC MACAY Virasat aims at promoting the best of Indian heritage amongst the younger generation. The “Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture Amongst Youth” (SPIC MACAY) is a non-profit, voluntary, apolitical and participatory youth movement, dedicated to enriching education, by presenting a holistic vision of Indian culture, its priceless heritage of classical, folk and community traditions. Since its inception, at least two generations have participated in the movement. Like a wave, thousands of the youth and the not-so-young, have surged forward holding aloft its aims and objectives, resulting in a network of over 300 units in India and 50 Chapters abroad. This movement emphasizes the need to make students in various educational institutions throughout India and abroad, aware of the multifaceted and rich cultural heritage of India.
