PRESS RELEASE TANKER DRIVERS RELOCATED FROM LAGOS AIRPORT ACCESS ROAD The petroleum tankers operating at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport have responded to the deadline issued by the Federal Government to relocate from the airport access road to the new space provided for them by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria. By mid day today, over two thirds of the tankers had already relocated to the new site. As at yesterday, not less than 200 tankers were parked at the airport access road but the trucks remaining at the access road by mid day were not up to 50. In a bid to sanitise the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Ikeja and enhance security around the airport, the Federal Government had given a 48 hour deadline to the petroleum tanker drivers to relocate to the site of their new park, after a mutual agreement between them and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria. The relocation exercise is going on successfully as the exercise is being supervised by the Lagos Zonal Council of the Petroleum Tanker Drivers, a branch of the Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG). Aviation stakeholders in the country have described the relocation of the tanker drivers to a new location as a major breakthrough by the Honourable Minister of Aviation and FAAN since previous Ministers and administrations in FAAN had tried to effect this relocation several times in the past but failed.
