PRESS RELEASE – Press Enterprise For Immediate Release (September 6, 2013) Marcia R. Amino, former City Council District 2 candidate, City of Moreno Valley, CA Kristy Sjoden, former City Council District 2 candidate, City of Moreno Valley, CA Connie Rogers-Elmore, former City Council District 2 candidate, City of Moreno Valley, CA FORMER MORENO VALLEY CITY COUNCIL DISTRICT 2 CANDIDATES UNITE BEHIND EMBATTLED COUNCILMAN RICHARD STEWART “Mayor Owings’ willful failure to appoint Councilman Richard Stewart to any regional organizations is his blatant attempt to invalidate the democratic rights and voices of District 2 residents. Simply put, Owings is denying 30,000 plus residents a voice in their local government. Such is markedly important given District 2 has the largest number of registered voters within the City. Yet these same voters have and continue to be disallowed any representation on regional organizations by our 6-term elected Councilman, Richard Stewart. Councilman Stewart’s broad experience and prior years of service on various regional organizations has earned him the respect and admiration of government leaders, agencies, and commissions alike. Richard has built bridges, forged valuable relationships, established alliances, and networked on behalf of this City’s residents for 22+ years. Councilman Stewart should rightly be appointed to fill the vacancies left by resigned Councilman Co. It appears that non-political issues are at the basis of the mayoral recommendations. However, such issues have no basis in decisions made by an electorate and are unacceptable. Hence, we are calling on Councilmembers Baca and Molina to do the right thing and uphold the democratic process. They must show their independence by voting NO on the Mayor’s recommendations. We therefore, as former candidates for Moreno Valley City Council District 2, have united together and hereby endorse Councilman Richard Stewart’s appointment to fill the current vacancies on our regional organizations.” # # #
