PRESS STATEMENT ON CABINET DECISIONS CABINET APPROVES POLICY ON BUY UGANDA BUILD UGANDA (BUBU) The private sector petitioned Government to support procurement and consumption of locally produced goods and services in the country. They tasked Government to formulate a policy that encourages the consumption of local products with a view to increasing production and consumption. They further requested Government to expedite the process of passing all necessary commercial laws and policies that help to curb uncompetitive practices. It is against that background that cabinet approved BUBU to: • Give guidance to policy makers to ensure that promotion of the consumption of locally produced goods is integrated into their policies and procedures • Give prominence to local produced goods • To promote the use and conformity to standards to guarantee quality goods and services • To provide capacity building programs to local supplies of goods and services • To promote the ‘’PROUDLY UGANDAN’’ brand Cabinet also noted that the ‘’buy Uganda, Build Uganda’’ is about employment creation and will go a long way in supporting the creation of jobs in the country.
