PRINCIPAL ESIA CONSULTANT UK The Geo-Environment Department contributes to projects in a variety of ways. Involvement can be long or short-term, based in the Cardiff office or at client offices, project sites or field camps, and sometimes in overseas company offices. The Environment team is one of three teams in the Geo-Environmental Department, with Water and Geochemistry being the other two. Work undertaken by the team includes: • Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIA) of new mining and mining related projects to meet host country, corporate and possible lender requirements (including those of the IFC/World Bank Group) • Undertaking compliance audits • Environmental and social management planning • Contributing to project development studies • Management and undertaking specialist studies, including baseline data collection, contamination investigations and routine monitoring studies for compliance and impact evaluation purposes • Mine closure costing and planning • Supporting permit and authorisation application processes • Conducting due diligence, third party reviews and component persons reports • Provision of training to companies or regulatory authorities on environmental issues The majority of our work involves projects in Africa, Europe, Russian Federation and CIS countries and a minor amount elsewhere, depending upon where our clients’ projects are located. Our clients include major/mid-tier/junior mining companies, financial organisations and, occasionally, governments. Our senior professionals are recognised industry experts in their areas of specialisation, and the company encourages individuals to develop their own professional interests, within the supporting framework of the department. However, this requires a commitment to high technical standards and continuing professional development from each member of the team. Whilst client aims to provide a strongly supportive technical atmosphere with the required level of staff sufficient to meet our work requirements, it is realised the nature of consulting can require extra effort (out of hours work) from team members to meet deadlines or to accommodate travel requirements. Essential Requirements: • Degree or equivalent in a natural resource related science or engineering subject with a higher degree in an environmental discipline and/or the majority of experience gained internationally • Previous experience of undertaking large ESIAs and contributing to project development studies, ideally for international (non-UK) projects and for a variety of natural resource commodities • Evidence of exposure to different environmental disciplines including air, water, geochemistry, noise, biodiversity/ecology, social and cultural issues (technical abilities in a specific area would be an advantage but is not essential) • Proven track record of bringing projects in on time, within budget and to the clients satisfaction • Excellent report and proposal writing skills requiring strong English language skills (verbal and written). A second language would be an advantage but is not essential • Strong communication skills • Proven leadership and team building experience • Business development skills • Effective organisation and time management skills • Proficient in Microsoft office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
